Celebrating Over 92 Years of Impact in Binghamton 

Since 1932, the Junior League of Binghamton has been dedicated to fostering positive change and strengthening our community. For nearly a century, our members have championed a wide range of projects to support children, families, and neighborhoods throughout the area. From educational initiatives to health and wellness programs, we proudly continue our tradition of service, empowering local voices and making a meaningful difference. 1927-1959


1946: Community Arts Council. A survey was funded by the league to determine the needs in the area wich led to the oping of the Roberson Center for the Arts & Sciences!

1937-1950: Children's Theater Council. JLB dedicated efforts to bringing quality children's play to Binghamton schools!


1954-1967


1965: The Southern Tier Zoological Society served as the Zoo's governing body and was started by JLB!

1964: Ever hear of 'Home for the Holidays' at Roberson Mansion? It started with the JLB! The annual event was originally called the 'Christmas Tree Forest' and was located outdoors along Court Street!

1954-1965: Community Ambassador Program. Students were sponsored to visit foreign countries. When they returned they spoke to community groups!

1971-1986


1980-1986: Environment Activity Book. An activity booklet about Broome County for school children.

1975-1976: Capri Theatre. JLB supported funding efforts to help restore the Capri Theatre into The Forum!

1971: S.E.R.V.E.   A service program created to encourage senior citizens to volunteer.


1981-1987

1983: Discovery Center! Based on JLB's 1982 Children's Museum Study, the Discovery Center planning began. The center opened on March 6, 1984!

1982: The ZooMobile! A specially designed van given to Ross Park Zoo enabling the Zoo to transport animals to local schools for educational purposes!

1981-1997: Safety Town. A program designed to teach children about pedestrian safety, rules of bicycling, fire safety & basic safety rules! 

1971-1992: Youth Volunteer Awards. A program to honor high school seniors who have demonstrated exceptional voluntarism! 


1986-1995


1991-1993: Choices & Habitat for Humanity. JLB donated funds to roof the first house renovated by Habitat for Humanity locally.

1986: The Children's Shelter. Now known as the 'Grand Boulevard Group Home.' Founded by JLB - An emergency shelter to provide short-term foster care for abused children.

1995-2012


2004-2012: The Story Garden. JLB developed, funded and designed a literacy themed play space at the Discovery Center!

1995-1999: Children Watch. A program was established to give community leaders a better understanding of child abuse and neglect.

2004-2025


Current Project: The 'Food Recovery & Prepared Meal' truck. JLB is designing and funding a truck to reduce area food waste and provide food security to our neighbors.

2014-2020: Kopernik Science Park. JLB funded the creation of the educational park for science, technology, engineering, and math.
